Homework Policy: Homework is a very important component to learning mathematics. In this class homework is usually assigned when class assignments are not completed during class time. Students are expected to show all work when completing ANY assignment in order to receive full credit. Homework will be checked daily. Most of the time, homework will be assigned if the student’s class work is not complete five minutes prior to the end of class. With this being said, some students may always get their work completed in class and may never have written homework. Other students may have homework every night due to not getting their class work completed in class. Often, parents want to see that students are completing their work in class, so all assignments are due the next school day at the very beginning of the class period. Whether students have written homework or not, it is recommended that review of notes be a nightly task. If a student did not complete their homework, they must get it complete as soon as possible.
Retesting Opportunity: ECMS has a NO Retest Policy. Students will NOT be allowed to retest on failed county assessments for the 2019-2020 school year. Students will be given several opportunities for remediation prior to test days.
Additional Help: I will be available after school, every Tuesday until 4:30 pm, if you require tutorial. It is important that your ride pick you up timely.
Communication: The best way for parents and student to contact me is by email. I will send emails and Remind messages to help keep parents up-to-date with what is going on in class. I also update my teacher website daily with notes, assignments, and upcoming tests/quizzes/due dates. Parents AND students are encouraged to visit this site daily.
Absences and Make-Up Policy: When a student is absent from class, it is his/her responsibility to get the notes and assignments from the teacher, the teacher website, or a reliable classmate. We believe that it is crucial for all students to be at school and maintain appropriate attendance and discipline. However, should a student have an unexcused absence or suspension, it is important that the student not miss out on the learning that took place while they were gone. For this reason, students will be encouraged to complete all missed work but will not be able to receive full credit. Students must make up the work and/or tests and will receive 70% of the accuracy grade. For example, a student who completes the work with 90% accuracy will receive 90 x .70 or a grade of 63 and a student who completes the work with 60% accuracy will receive a 60 x .70 or a grade of 42. If a student has an excused absence, he/she has the same number of days absent to make up the missed work.
Bring Your Own Technology: Students will occasionally be given the opportunity to use their personal device if they have turned in a BYOT form and it is documented in our system. Learning devices are not mandatory and they are only to be used with the permission of the teacher. Students will be responsible for their own devices, using them properly, and following the guidelines outlined on the BYOT form. Failure to follow the guidelines will result in the students’ BYOT privilege being revoked.
Classroom Expectations: It is the students’ responsibility to be prepared for class daily. Math binder, notebook paper, pencils, and graph paper are required in class daily. Students are expected to be active participants in class by taking notes, completing all assignments, participating in class discussions, and collaborating with other students as necessary. Students are expected to show respect to the teacher, other students, and school property. It is expected that students will maintain a neat and organized math notebook. This notebook will be used like a reference for everything 8th grade math. Failure to keep your notebook organized will only hurt you in the long run.
